Activities of KSNG 1. Training and workshop KSNG organizes different kinds of training like Leadership management and development training, computer training, basic political training, capacity building workshop. Next, it also organizes media training such as journalism training and radio running program training. When we organizes these training and workshops our working group students other organizations like Karen Youth Organization (KYO), Karen Women Organization (KWO), Karen Student University Group (KUSG) and Karen Office Relief for Development (KORD) always participate with us. The main locations of training and workshop are in Mae Sot, and refugee camps. 2. Media 1) Publication KSNG has publications of Student friend Magazine, Pen Pal society and Factual Information and New Optics. Student Friend Magazine is published every two months, Pen Pal society is published every six months and Factual Information, and New Optics is published monthly. 2) Radio Program KSNG already set up three radio stations in three Karen Refugee camps as Umphium Mai, Mae La and Maekongka(now relocated to a new place call Maeraoon) camps. The variety of news that is broadcast includes health, education, drugs, politics, economics, women rights, Story, child rights and trafficking, and environment. We also broadcast the daily activities in the camps and the activities of KSNG. 3. Organizing KSNG executive committee visits working groups and students from camp to camp and at the same time networks with the camp communities and leaders. It also networks with other ethnic group like Karenni but communication is poor because of long distance. 4. Karen Internally Displace School (KIDS) KSNG gives some supports of study materials to three schools in 6th Brigade, two in 5th Brigade and 1 in first Brigade inside Karen State. It also organizes sports and fellowship activities for Internally Displaced Students. For these activities we got the donation from Karen activist students and Lisa. 5. Theatre For Social Change We start KSNG drama project in 2004 and now we do the drama performance in three refugee camp which are Umphien Mai Karen refugee camp and Maeraoon together with Maeramoe Karen refugee camp. We see that drama can reach our community which other media can not. Because most of our community can not read and write. This is the best way to give the awareness to them. 6. Education and culture KSNG also organizes different competitions on general knowledge, poem writing, drawing, essay writing on Karen history, debating, impromptu speaking, singing, cultural exchange, basket weaving, traditional porridge cooking, and story telling with drama. 7. Fund raising We sell T-shirts (with the KSNG logo on them), traditional Karen clothes, and bags. We also organize a fund raising party and raise the money by selling tickets. 8. Environment Before we had activities on environment but later one of the NGOs like COERR set up its activities in the camp some of our member who are in the camp join them on their project. And now we are working on anti dam project which Thai and Burmese regime are agree to build it in Salween river. 9. Cooperation KSNG cooperates with other organizations like KYO, KWO, KUSG, on political issues, leadership and management and partners like, KORD, KESAN, KWO, KYO and FTUK on anti dam issue, environmental and others are in social issues. 10. Meeting KSNG General Election is held every two years and it is done through a democratic process. The General Assembly is held twice every year. In addition, emergency meetings are held whenever necessary. On every meeting we organize competitions like chess, scrabble, football, volleyball, cane ball, badminton and general knowledge.
